INTRODUCTION ABOUT COFFEE SECTOR IN INDIA

The greatest flavor and taste of any coffee may be found only in India. 70% of the nation’s coffee is produced in the Karnataka districts of Kodagu, Chikmagalur, and Hassan; the remaining 30% is procured from neighboring states (Kerala and Tamilnadu). Indian coffee has a unique flavor because it is grown in the shade rather than in direct sunshine like coffee is grown everywhere else in the globe.

In the year 1600 A.D., Baba Budan traveled to India as a pilgrim and planted seven Yemeni coffee seeds in the “Chandragiri” hills of what is now the Chikmagalur region of Karnataka. British settlers started growing coffee for profit in the “Coorg” district of Karnataka in 1820.

Due to its excellent blending qualities, Indian Robusta is highly favored. The international market is favorable to Indian Arabica coffee. India may be the only country that produces coffee where the beans are wholly grown in shade, plucked by hand, and sun-dried.
